(KPL) Typhoon Yagi struck several Southeast Asian nations last week, severely impacting Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, and Myanmar. In Laos, the storm caused significant damage to lives and property, particularly in the northern provinces.

In response to the devastation, Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone has directed all relevant authorities to mobilize quickly and provide immediate relief to affected areas. Special focus has been placed on flood-stricken regions to support victims and mitigate further damage.

To enhance disaster preparedness, the Prime Minister instructed his office to release a statement outlining emergency plans and response mechanisms for Typhoon Yagi. These plans included mobilizing resources to address flood-related hazards, especially in areas already suffering from water damage.

The central government has organized a coordinated disaster response led by the National Disaster Management Committee, under the direction of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense. The committee worked closely with local authorities to address the urgent needs of affected communities, providing essential supplies such as food, shelter, and medical aid.

Additionally, the Deputy Prime Minister is overseeing both domestic and international assistance efforts. Humanitarian support is flowing in from various sectors, with aid workers and supplies being dispatched to the hardest-hit areas. The collaboration between government agencies, local authorities, and international partners has been crucial in managing the crisis effectively.

On September 15, Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone visited flood-affected areas in Vientiane, underscoring the urgency of addressing the escalating flood situation. He visited communities along the Mekong River, particularly in Pak Ngum, Hadxayfong, and Sisattanak Districts, where he distributed relief supplies and assessed the situation firsthand.

The Prime Minister stressed the importance of continued vigilance from local authorities and the public, urging residents to monitor weather conditions and water levels closely. He also advised the public to stay informed through online media for timely updates and further flood warnings.

In Luang Namtha Province, the Disaster Management Committee has taken the lead in relief operations, coordinating urgent support to the hardest-hit communities. The government has also appealed for additional aid from both domestic and international partners to bolster efforts in managing the aftermath of Typhoon Yagi.

Vice President Pany Yathortou recently visited Luang Namtha to oversee the mobilization and distribution of relief aid. Along with contributions from domestic businesses, the Laos-China Railway Company has provided free transportation services for relief supplies. Vietnam, China, Australia, India, and other friendly countries have also provided various forms of assistance, including essential goods and financial support.
