(KPL) Speaking to the media following the visit, Mr. Thongsavanh said Vietnam’s decision to make Laos the Prime Minister’s first official overseas destination after taking office reflected the importance Vietnam attaches to its longstanding friendship and special solidarity with Laos.
He said the visit had reaffirmed commitments to strengthening comprehensive cooperation and the strategic partnership between the two countries, with a focus on translating high-level agreements into practical results.
A key priority is improving economic and infrastructure connectivity through strategic projects, including the Vientiane–Hanoi Expressway, the development of Vung Ang Port, railway connections and petroleum pipeline projects. These initiatives are expected to strengthen transport links, facilitate trade and deepen long-term economic integration between the two countries.
During bilateral talks, leaders agreed to maintain close political ties and strengthen cooperation in defence and security. The two prime ministers also co-chaired a handover ceremony for the Population Management Database and Lao Citizen Identification Card Project.
Economic cooperation featured prominently during the visit, with 11 cooperation documents signed and 18 joint investment documents exchanged to promote trade and investment. The two prime ministers also co-chaired the Laos–Vietnam Investment Promotion Conference, which focused on expanding investment cooperation and generating greater economic benefits for both countries.
In education and human resource development, Vietnam reaffirmed its support for Laos, including assistance for school construction in Houaphanh and Champasak provinces. The two prime ministers also attended the launch of the Laos–Vietnam Friendship University construction project and signed an agreement on the establishment of the university to support the training of highly qualified Lao personnel.
The visit also strengthened cooperation between local authorities. Three cooperation agreements covering 2026–2030 were signed: between Vientiane Province and Hai Phong City; Oudomxay Province and Hai Phong City; and Oudomxay Province and Ninh Binh Province.
Mr. Thongsavanh said the outcomes reflected the shared commitment of the two Parties, States and peoples to maintaining their longstanding friendship, special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation and strategic partnership, while advancing practical cooperation across key sectors.
