Laos, Thailand Review Bilateral Cooperation at 23rd Joint Commission Meeting

(KPL) The meeting was co-chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao PDR Thongsavanh Phomvihane and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand Sihasak Phuangketkeow.
The two sides reviewed implementation of the outcomes of the 22nd JC Meeting and discussed cooperation in politics and security, trade and investment, connectivity, tourism, energy, agriculture, public health, education, science and technology, environmental protection and other areas.
They agreed to strengthen cooperation in maintaining border security and order, advancing land and water boundary demarcation, and combating transnational crime, drug trafficking, cybercrime and human trafficking.
The two countries also discussed expanding trade and investment, supporting private-sector cooperation and SMEs, promoting digital economic development, and strengthening economic connectivity. Key infrastructure projects discussed included linking the Laos-China Railway with Thailand's railway network, the Xieng Maen–Luang Prabang Mekong Bridge, and the proposed 6th and 7th Lao-Thai Friendship Bridges.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to regular exchanges between central and local authorities and to closer cooperation under bilateral and multilateral frameworks.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the two Deputy Prime Ministers adopted the Minutes of the 23rd Lao-Thai JC Meeting.
The two sides also witnessed the signing of a Letter of Intent to establish a friendly city relationship between Luang Prabang Province and Nan Province, Thailand, as well as the exchange of documents on the Lao-Thai border work action plan and the Xieng Maen–Luang Prabang Bridge project.
Following the meeting, the two Deputy Prime Ministers and their delegations inspected the proposed bridge site and visited Wat Xieng Thong in Luang Prabang.
