Prime Minister Pays Courtesy Call on Vietnamese President To Lam

KPL - Asean 2024 Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone paid a courtesy call on President To Lam of Vietnam in Hanoi on June 9 during his official visit to Vietnam and participation in the 3rd ASEAN Future Forum.


Prime Minister Sonexay congratulated President To Lam on his election as President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and highly praised Vietnam’s growing role on the regional and international stage. He also conveyed warm greetings from President Thongloun Sisoulith and expressed sincere gratitude to the Party, State, and people of Vietnam for their longstanding support and assistance to Laos.
The two leaders exchanged views on developments in their respective countries and reviewed the progress of bilateral cooperation. They noted that the great friendship, special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation, and strategic partnership between Laos and Vietnam continue to deepen across all sectors, supported by regular exchanges of high-level delegations and the effective implementation of agreements reached by the two countries’ top leaders.
Both sides highly valued the outcomes of the 48th Meeting of the Laos–Vietnam Cooperation Committee and the implementation of key bilateral projects, many of which have made significant progress. They agreed to further strengthen political ties, expand cooperation in national defense and security, and enhance collaboration in education and human resource development to meet the demands of a rapidly changing world.
The two leaders also pledged to work closely in preparing for the celebration of the Laos–Vietnam Friendship and Solidarity Year 2027, which will mark the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation between the two countries. They emphasized the importance of promoting awareness among younger generations of the unique and enduring relationship between Laos and Vietnam.
President Tô Lâm warmly welcomed Prime Minister Sonexay’s visit, describing it as an important contribution to further strengthening bilateral ties. He encouraged both governments to continue implementing agreements reached by the two Politburos and to accelerate strategic cooperation projects, ensuring that the special relationship between Vietnam and Laos remains strong, stable, and beneficial to the peoples of both countries.
The two sides also reaffirmed their commitment to close coordination and mutual support in regional and international forums.
