Kaysone City Launches First Ever "Ancient Market"

(KPL) The official opening ceremony for the first Ancient Market" (Talad Nat Bouhan) of Kaysone Phomvihane City took place on April 13, 2026. The event was organized to welcome the Lao New Year festival (Songkran), B.E. 2569.

The ceremony was attended by Mr. Thongsai Xayavongkhamdy, Vice Chairman of the Savannakhet Provincial Administration, and Mr. Valiya Sichanthongthip, Party Secretary of Kaysone Phomvihane City, along with provincial leadership, business representatives, and a large crowd of residents.

Preserving Heritage and Boosting Tourism

Mr. Bounsy Khounnasen, Chairman of the Kaysone Phomvihane City Administration, stated that the primary goals of the event are to highlight the cultural charm and historical "retro" atmosphere of the Old Town, turning it into a standout tourist destination.

Additionally, the market aims to stimulate the local economy by showcasing unique traditional products and local food specialties, such as Sin Savanh (Savannakhet dried beef), Mam Savanh (Savannakhet fermented meat), Khao Lam and Ping Kai (Bamboo sticky rice and grilled chicken).

Miss Songkran 2026 Pageant Results

A major highlight of the festivities was the Miss Songkran B.E. 2569 competition. The winners were Ms. Moukdavan Singkhamprasert from Ban Na Lao, who was crowned Miss Songkran Kaysone Phomvihane,

Ms. Thavivan Nouanviengkham from Ban Xayaphoum as the first runner-up, and Ms. Vadsana Phothilath  from Ban Phonsavang Neua as the second runner-up.

This celebration does more than just ring in the New Year; it serves to inspire the younger generation to take pride in and actively preserve the city's historic architecture and priceless heritage, ensuring these treasures endure for years to come.
