Laos, Cambodia Advance Border Demarcation Efforts at 12th Technical Meeting

(KPL) The 12th meeting of the Laos-Cambodia and Cambodia-Laos Joint Border Technical Subcommittee was held on April 2, 2026, in Kep Province, Cambodia, bringing together officials from both countries to review progress on border demarcation.
The Lao delegation was led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Anouparb Vongnorkeo, while the Cambodian side was headed by Eat Sophea, Deputy Minister and Secretary of State of the Border Affairs Committee.
Officials reviewed implementation results from August 2025 to March 2026, focusing on surveying and determining locations for new-style border markers. Both sides reported identifying 256 marker positions, with 236 markers already constructed.
The meeting also addressed operational challenges in the field, with both parties reaffirming their commitment to cooperation, facilitation, and mutual support to ensure progress stays on track.
Participants endorsed the ongoing implementation of the Laos-Cambodia Border Delimitation Treaty, including the installation of additional markers, and discussed solutions for remaining unresolved areas.
The meeting concluded in a spirit of friendship and mutual understanding, marking another step forward in strengthening bilateral ties. Both countries reiterated their shared goal of transforming the border into a zone of peace, friendship, and sustainable cooperation, while improving the livelihoods of communities along the frontier.
