(KPL/VNA) The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology has issued a nationwide alert, warning of widespread heavy rain and urging people to stay vigilant and take precautions against potential flooding and landslides in the coming days.

The warning comes as Tropical Storm Wutip (referred to as Storm No. 1 in Vietnam) moves over the East Sea, expected to bring moderate to heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds across Laos. The extreme weather significantly raises the risk of flash floods and landslides, particularly in vulnerable areas.

Authorities are advising local authorities and residents, especially in the provinces of Xayaboury, Champasak, and Attapeu to adopt preventive measures and stay alert to rapidly changing conditions. The capital, Vientiane, is also forecast to experience heavy rainfall, strong winds, and scattered thunderstorms.

The agency has issued special warnings for ethnic minority communities, local authorities, and relevant organisations to prepare for possible damage caused by falling trees, signboards, and utility poles. Residents are urged to stay informed through official weather channels and prepare response plans as needed.
