KPL - Asean 2024 Luang Prabang is preparing for the annual Boun Ork Phansa Pavarana and Lai Heua Fai (Fire Boat) Festival, which will take place from October 24–26, 2026, with a range of traditional, cultural and tourism activities.

(KPL) A consultative meeting on preparations for the festival was held at Luang Prabang City Hall on September 30, chaired by Mr. Saveuy Silavanh, Mayor of Luang Prabang City. The meeting brought together representatives from provincial departments, city sub-committees, schools and villages involved in building the traditional fire boats.

Participants reviewed the assignment of responsibilities to various sub-committees and received updates on preparations for the Boun Ork Phansa Pavarana, That Chomsy Stupa Worship Festival and Lai Heua Fai celebrations, with an emphasis on preserving the traditional customs of Luang Prabang.

The three-day programme will feature the Great Mahachat Sermon, worship activities at That Chomsy Stupa, traditional performances, illuminated displays and lantern lighting at temples. The highlight will be the traditional fire boat competition.

The festival aims to preserve Buddhist and local traditions, promote domestic tourism, generate income for local communities, and showcase the artistic skills and craftsmanship of Luang Prabang residents. Authorities will also focus on maintaining public safety, security and order throughout the celebrations.

Mr. Saveuy called on all sub-committees to strengthen coordination and carry out their responsibilities with a high level of commitment to ensure a vibrant, peaceful and safe festival and to attract more domestic and international visitors to Luang Prabang.
