Japan Provides Grant for Clean Water Project in Xiengkhuang
(KPL) The Government of Japan has provided more than US$40,000 in grant assistance for the construction of a clean drinking water system in Phaxay District, Xiengkhuang Province, under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).
The grant agreement was signed on August 24, 2026, by Japanese Ambassador to the Lao PDR Koizumi Tsutomu and Mr. Yeng Mua, Director of the Phaxay District Health Office. The ceremony was attended by Mr. Phouvong Ounkhamsene, Secretary of the Xiengkhuang Provincial Party Committee, and provincial authorities.
Ambassador Koizumi said the project would directly address local needs and improve access to safe drinking water, particularly for residents of remote areas. He noted that the project is the 52nd GGP project supported by Japan in Laos, bringing total assistance under the programme to more than US$2.9 million.
He urged local authorities and communities to work closely together to complete the project efficiently while ensuring high construction standards and quality.
The GGP supports small-scale projects that directly benefit local communities and improve basic living conditions in developing countries
