(KPL) The Government of Japan has provided a grant of USD 67,900 for a water supply project in Xieng Khuang Province under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP). The initiative aims to improve access to safe and hygienic water for local residents.

The project will support the construction of a new water supply facility in Xong Village, Phoukoud District, enhancing the community’s access to clean water for daily use.

Japanese Ambassador to Laos Tsutomu Koizumi signed the grant agreement with Chandy Navixay, Director of the Phoukoud District Health Office.

Ambassador Koizumi emphasized Japan’s commitment to supporting local communities, stating that while this is a small-scale project, it will significantly improve the livelihoods of residents in Phoukoud District.

He highlighted that once completed, the facility will provide clean water for daily use and urged local authorities to maintain it properly for long-term use.

“These projects contribute significantly to empowering vulnerable and marginalized communities while fostering economic and social development,” he added.

Through GGP, Japan funds small-scale projects that directly benefit local populations by enhancing economic and social infrastructure in developing countries, including Laos.

To date, Japan has provided over USD 2.8 million in assistance to Xieng Khuang Province, supporting health, education, infrastructure, and agriculture. In a shared effort to reduce regional disparities, Japan remains committed to initiatives that improve living standards at the grassroots level, ensuring that “no one is left behind.”
