(KPL) The National Commission for the Advancement of Women and Mother-Children (NCAWMC) held a meeting on February 24 in Vientiane to strengthen efforts in promoting the rights and well-being of women, mothers, and children.

Ms. Chansoda Phonethip, Vice President of NCAWMC and Vice President of the Lao Women’s Union, expressed her honor in representing the Chairperson of NCAWMC at the seminar. She emphasized the seminar’s purpose: to raise awareness, enhance understanding, and reinforce the implementation of policies aimed at promoting gender equality and the advancement of women, mothers, and children in Lao PDR.

"The seminar takes place as the Party and the State actively implement the 9th Five-Year Socio-Economic Development Plan (2021-2025). As part of NCAWMC’s responsibilities, we are preparing to review the implementation of three key national action plans: the National Action Plan for Gender Equality, the National Action Plan for Mothers and Children, and the National Action Plan to Prevent and Eliminate Violence Against Women and Children," she stated.

She further noted the significance of the upcoming open meeting of NCAWMC, scheduled for the end of March 2025, which will serve as a platform to assess the progress and effectiveness of the commission’s activities over the past year.

Ms. Chansoda extended her gratitude to all attendees, acknowledging their commitment and responsibility in advancing gender equality and the welfare of mothers and children. However, she pointed out that while implementation mechanisms are in place, there are still gaps in coordination across different sectors.

"Promoting women's progress and achieving gender equality are fundamental societal responsibilities that must evolve alongside national socio-economic development. Institutions such as the National Assembly, the Lao Women’s Union, and NCAWMC each have distinct roles but share the common goal of advancing gender equality in Lao PDR," she remarked.

She highlighted the necessity of this year’s seminar in fostering awareness and equipping representatives with the knowledge and tools needed to implement gender equality initiatives effectively. By integrating the Party’s policies into their respective areas, participants can contribute to achieving the set objectives for women's advancement and equal rights.

The one-day seminar includes presentations on key documents related to gender equality, the rights of women and children, and national and international legislation. Participants will also discuss best practices, share lessons learned, and explore ways to enhance collaboration for more effective implementation of gender equality and child welfare initiatives in the future.
