(KPL) A bathroom and a kitchen built with assistance from China Southern Power Grid (CSG) for the Laos - China Friendship School in Hatnam village, Bokeo Province were put into operation on Dec. 28, 2022.
A handover ceremony was held on the same day at the Hatnam Laos - China Friendship School.
Bokeo Governor Buakong Nammavong and leaders of relevant provincial departments attended the ceremony.
Governor Buakong spoke highly of CSG’s assistance and was grateful to CSG, saying that the aid deepens Laos - China friendship. The bathroom and kitchen are part of CSG’s “small yet smart” assistance programmes and its education-aid practice called “Dok Champa” activity in Laos.
In 2020, China Southern Power Grid International Co., Ltd. under CSG built two Laos - China Friendship Schools in Hatnam and Vanglek villages near its Nam Tha 1 Hydropower Plant.

In 2022, CSG spent US$30,000 building supporting facilities for the Hatnam Laos-China Friendship School, including a kitchen, a bathroom, a well and a solar-powered water supply system, further improving the living conditions for about 200 teachers and students at the school.
In the past, students at the school washed themselves in a river and cooked in the open air. “After we came here, we felt that we should do more things for local children,” said Yu Yi, director of the administrative department of Nam Tha 1 Lao Power Co., Ltd under CSGI.
This is not the first time that students of Laos-China Friendship Schools have felt the warmth brought to them by CSG. On Dec. 20, 2022, Nam Tha 1 Lao Power donated 90 pieces of clothes and quilts to poverty-stricken students of the Vanglek Laos-China Friendship School.
On the same day, staff members from the Nam Tha 1 Hydropower Plant participated in “CSG classroom” activity at the Vanglek Laos-China Friendship School, introducing traditional Chinese culture and CSG’s development to the school’s teachers and students, who also visited the Nam Tha 1 Hydropower Plant.
