(KPL) Lao and Japanese officials on Dec 21 joined a handover ceremony for a two-story building with three fully equipped classrooms built with grant support from the Japanese government through its Grant Assistance for Cultural Grassroots Projects (GCGP).
The officials included Vice Minister of Education and Sports Sisouk Vongvichit, President of the National University of Laos (NUOL) Assoc. Prof. Dr. Oudom Phonekhampheng, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan Takei Shunsuke, and Ambassador of Japan to the Lao PDR Kobayashi Kenichi.
Relevant faculty members and students also attended the handover ceremony. Lao Japanese language learners are expected to benefit from the newly built facilities of the Department of Japanese, National University of Laos.
The NUOL Department of Japanese has been playing an important educational role since its foundation in 2003.
It has offered high quality Japanese language education to enable a great number of Lao people to achieve excellent results in their respective fields.
The facilities will serve to enhance the educational environment, supporting more Japanese language learners to acquire and develop high levels of Japanese proficiency at the tertiary level in the Lao PDR.
In his remarks, State Minister Takei expressed his great appreciation for the efforts of the Japanese language teachers who have continued to conduct language classes amid the challenges and difficult situations arising from the COVID-19 pandemic. He also expressed his hope that the results of the project would contribute to training those Lao people who can play an active role as a bridge between Japan and the Lao PDR and to deepen friendship between the two countries toward 2025 which marks 70th anniversary of their diplomatic relations.
