(KPL) The Government of Laos has authorized Vietnam’s Quang Binh AMI Renewables Investment Joint Stock Company to conduct a feasibility study into a 252-MW wind farm development project in Savannakhet Province.

Under a 24-month MoU signed in Vientiane on Dec 8, in the first stage, the company will conduct the study within an area of nearly 2,700 ha in Savannakhet’s Sepon district.

The project’s power generation capacity may be increased to 1,215 MW if the provincial authorities allow the company to survey more areas for wind power development.

In case the project is feasible in terms of finance and markets, meeting Laos' technical standards on electricity, the Lao Government will allow the company to develop the project in the build-own-operate (BOO) form.
