Laos, Brunei enhance cooperation on trade, economy and investment

KPL (KPL) Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Saleumxay Khommasith who is also Chairman of the Joint Committee on Lao-Brunei Bilateral Cooperation, led a Lao delegation to attend the 3rd meeting of the Joint Committee on Lao-Brunei Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC-3) in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam on Aug 9-11.

(KPL) Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Saleumxay Khommasith who is also Chairman of the Joint Committee on Lao-Brunei Bilateral Cooperation, led a Lao delegation to attend the 3rd meeting of the Joint Committee on Lao-Brunei Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC-3) in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam on Aug 9-11.

Mr Saleumxay's visit was in response to the invitation of Dato Erywan Pehin Yusof, Second Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Brunei Darussalam and Chairman of the Joint Committee on Brunei-Lao Bilateral Cooperation to enhance friendship and cooperation between Laos and Brunei.

On Aug 10, there was held the 3rd Lao-Brunei, Brunei-Lao Bilateral Cooperation Committee meeting (JCBC-3) co-chaired by Mr. Saleumxay Kormasit and Mr. Erywan Pehin Yusof.

Delivering remarks at the meeting Mr. Saleimxay Kormasit expressed his congratulations to Mr. Erivan Perhin Yusop on his appointment as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brunei Darussalam for another term and expressed appreciation on Brunei's successful Chairmanship of ASEAN in 2021.

At the same time, Mr. Erivan Perhin Youssop also congratulated Mr. Saleumxay Gommasith on his appointment as Deputy Prime Minister of the Lao PDR in June 2022.

He also expressed thanks to the government of the Lao PDR for supporting Brunei's ASEAN chairmanship.

Both sides spoke highly of the friendly relations and sound cooperation between the two countries which has been enhanced effectively and expressed their satisfaction on continued cooperation on politics, defense and public security, and joint military training and exchange. They also agreed to promote and enhance cooperation on economy, trade and investment through promoting the coordination between the National Chambers of Commerce and Industry of the two countries.

Both sides also agreed to promote cooperation in agriculture, Laos’ export of rice and other agricultural products to Brunei, manufacturing, energy, trade and investment, air transportation, education, sports, human resource development, labor and social welfare.

They also agreed to jointly organize important activities to mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Lao-Brunei diplomatic relations (Jul 27, 1993-2023).
