KPL (KPL) The Government of Japan has provided grant assistance worth over USD 514,000 to support basic education for ethnic minority children in the northern province of Oudomxay.

(KPL) The Government of Japan has provided grant assistance worth over USD 514,000 to support basic education for ethnic minority children in the northern province of Oudomxay.

The project grant contract was signed in Vientiane on Dec 3 between Mr. Iwamoto Keiichi, Minister and Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of Japan in the Lao P.D.R., and Ms. Suzumura Kumiko, Project Manager of Plan International Japan, a Japanese non-profit organization which initiates and manages the project.

The grant extended this time will fund the activities in the second year of the three-year project.

The project entitled “Basic Education for Ethnic Minority Children in Oudomxay Province” aims to improve the quality of basic education and school readiness of ethnic minority children in Pakbeng district, Oudomxay Province.

The project team will work on capacity building of teachers and parents in pre-primary and primary schools in Pakbeng.

In the second year of the project, they will support 21 pre-primary schools and 30 primary schools.

Plan International strives for a world where all children realize their full potential, thus securing children’s rights and gender equality.

The organization operates in more than 70 countries together with relevant international partners.
