(KPL) Minister of Labour and Social Welfare Khampheng Xaysompheng received on Tuesday a courtesy call from EU Ambassador to the Lao PDR Ina Marciulionyte on the occasion of her recent appointment to the post.

The minister congratulated the new ambassador upon her appointment to the post and highly valued the longstanding friendly relations and expressed his belief that the ambassador will continue to promote and contribute to enhancing the friendly relations and cooperation between Laos and EU and to the socio-economic development of the Lao PDR.

The European Union has provided through international organisations technical and financial assistance, worth US$21.3 million, to the Lao PDR contributing significantly to the labour and social welfare sector, especially the clearance of unexploded ordnance, and disaster risk management and reduction.

The EU ambassador expressed her commitment to strengthening the bilateral relations and cooperation between Laos and EU.
