(KPL) Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Representative to the Lao PDR Nasar Hayat met with Vice Governor of Xieng Khuang Province Boua Ngeun Houmxaiyaphom to discuss potential cooperation in the agricultural sector on Feb 23.
The discussion was joined by representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry as well as provincial officials.

FAO cooperates with governmental authorities at central, provincial, and local levels, farmers and the private sector of the Lao PDR to help improve livelihoods and productivity of the agricultural sector as well as bolster food and nutrition security in the country.
During his visit to Xieng Khuang, Mr. Hayat also met with the specialists of the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Forestry to learn about the priorities and challenges of the sector.
Mr. Hayat’s schedule included a meeting with President of the Lao Sericulture Cooperative Kommaly Chanthavong to discuss potential joint initiatives in the silk sector.
“The decline in tourism over the past year, a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, has highlighted the need to strengthen the employment and productivity of the agricultural sector across the country,” said Mr. Hayat.
“FAO is looking forward to working with Xieng Khuang Province to help it capitalize on its climate, soil, and the skills of its farmers to generate food and livelihoods,” said Mr. Hayat.
