Leuxay market burning on Feb 25
(KPL) The Leuxay market in Xay district, Oudomxay Province burned down during the evening of Saturday Feb 25. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The fire started around 8 pm and was under control at around 11 pm. It is estimated that the fire left damage of more than 1 billion kip (over US$120,000), according to Colonel Nilavong Cheuangtavalath, Head of Public Security Headquarters of Oudomxay Province.
Colonel Nilavong disclosed that the fire began on the second floor of the two storey building before spreading to the first floor. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
This market is near the Singxay market, the biggest market in Oudomxay Province, which has many shops belonging to both local and foreign venders.
Currently, Oudomxay Province is preparing a meeting to sum up the cause of the Leuxay market fire and to seek ways to prevent future fires.
Another accidental fire damaged 26 houses belonging to locals of Kone village, Houn district, Oudomxay Province on 11 Feb, leaving damage of about 250 million kip (over US$30,500).
