(KPL) The departments in charge of treaties and laws, consular affairs, and international organizations under the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Public Security, and the Lao Women's Union met on Feb 9-10 in Champassak to discuss measures to combat the trafficking of persons in the southern provinces.
International and regional conventions to combat trafficking in persons were presented at the two day workshop.
The workshop aimed to equip officials of relevant authorities with a broader knowledge and understanding of the content and key principles of international and regional anti-human trafficking conventions on which the Lao PDR has signed as a member.
“For years, Laos has been considered as the country of origin, transit and destination for human trafficking and as a result, the government always attaches importance to anti-human trafficking efforts as it has formulated policies, laws and legal tools to ensure the combating of human trafficking,” said Deputy Director of the Treaties and Law Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mrs Viengvone Kittavong.
