Vat Phou Festival 2017 is being celebrated between Feb 9-11, 2017
(KPL) Many festival-goers who have been to the Vat Phou Festival 2017 have complained about the expense of the parking fees, amounting to 60,000 kip per car for entrance into the Vat Phou Festival 2017.
Normally the parking fee for entry to the Vat Phou Temple, a popular tourist site in Champassak Province, is about 10,000 kip per car. But during the festival, the fee has been increased from 10,000 kip to 60,000 kip, said Ms Paphaisone Phaborliboun.
Ms Paphaisone, who is a tour guide, said that the normal price of an entry ticket to Vat Phou is 50,000 kip per person for foreigners and 20,000 kip per person for Lao people.
However, the Provincial Information, Culture and Tourism Department has announced that there will be no charge to Vat Phou festival-goers this year during the three days from February 9-11, but they will have to pay a 20,000 kip road toll to enter to the Vat Phou Temple and also another 20,000 kip to exit.
The Vat Phou Festival 2017 is scheduled for February 8-11 in Champassak district, Champassak Province.
Members of the general public have called on relevant authorities to immediately investigate the reason for the excessive parking fees.
